It was the perfect place for my 75th birthday party. Food and service were great

We had been to this wonderful restaurant for lunch a few years ago and always wanted to return. The first time, the owner and his wife were there and made us feel very welcome and told us a bit about the history of the restaurant and a bit about themselves. It is a charming and very cozy very old restaurant in an ancient little building near Notre Dame wonderfully decorated in very old, dated but charming red velvet and dark woods. I think it may be the oldest-running restaurant in Paris. We loved our lunch, and I especially loved the egg cream and truffle appetizer. It was warm, creamy great truffle essence, nurturing, and delicious. So, when we had dinner this time, I of course ordered it. Well, unfortunately, the poached egg was probably poached with water and a bit of vinegar. Too much vinegar! The entire dish tasted like vinegar! I was so disappointed but did not complain as it is not my nature. The rest of the meal was very good. I would definitely recommend this very nice cozy unique restaurant. Mistakes do happen. Now I have to return and have my egg dish again, but not before I speak to them about the vinegar. Also, the owners were not there for our return dinner, and the staff, while efficient were not as welcoming. Our waiter Federico was a bit over the top but made for a fun and interesting evening. When I asked for the wine list, he told me to go to the cellar and choose what I wanted. This was unusual but fun. Be aware the cellar is down very rickety narrow steep steps. The wines in this tiny space were in wooden bins with pricing for each bin. Very good and fairly reasonable. Overall, not a romantic and intimate dinner as we had hoped, but an interesting and quite amusing experience.
Une parenthèse hors du temps en plein cœur de Paris. Accueil chaleureux et repas excellent.
